  • The Administrative Director serves as one of the primary leaders of the school, responsible for strategic planning, operational oversight, and acting as the principal liaison between the faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees. This role ensures that the school’s mission, values, and strategic goals are fulfilled through effective communication, policy management, and driving community engagement.

    Requirements: 

    Professional Background: 

    Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree and Waldorf teaching certification or equivalent. 

    Professional Experience: Experienced Waldorf teacher (minimum 5 years preferred) with demonstrated collaborative leadership experience.

    Pedagogical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Waldorf education and anthroposophy. 

    Core Competencies: 

    Communication & Diplomacy: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; commitment to objectivity, relationship building, and consensus-oriented leadership. 

    Strategic Execution: Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and implement strategies in a timely manner. 

    Organizational Excellence: Timely, well-organized, and able to maintain accountability and appropriate documentation.

    Technical Proficiency: Proficient with Google Workspace, MS Office Suite, and shared documentation systems. 

    Ethics & Confidentiality: Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of personnel and student information. 

    Preferred Qualifications 

    Institutional & Pedagogical Knowledge: 

    Specialized Experience: Experience with AWSNA/WECAN principles, mentoring guidelines, and curriculum development. 

    Professional Development: Knowledge of ongoing faculty development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion within a Waldorf framework. 

    Key Responsibilities 

    1. Pedagogical Development & Faculty Support 

    Committee Leadership: Serve as Chair of the Pedagogical Committee and work closely with faculty to establish the pedagogical vision. 

    Faculty Consultation: Be available to teachers for discussion regarding pedagogical questions and classroom practice. Coordinate Child Study, including preparation of agendas and documentation

    Curriculum Oversight: Organize and review yearly curriculum plans to ensure alignment with the school’s curriculum guide. With the faculty, oversee ongoing development and maintenance of the school’s curriculum guide and scope and sequence documents 

    ● Build and maintain the specialty schedule 

    Mentorship: Coordinate peer and external mentoring for individual faculty members. 

    ● Implement and follow through on Mentoring guidelines for teachers.

    Evaluations: Coordinate internal comprehensive reviews, evaluations, and annual reviews of all teaching staff. 

    Observations: Observe all teaching staff at least three times per school year and provide needed support. 

    Professional Development: Plan and organize in-service professional development opportunities in coordination with the Pedagogical Committee. Lead Waldorf study.

    ● Work closely with the full faculty (Grades, EC, and Specialty teachers) to establish and implement the pedagogical vision of the school in alignment with AWSNA and WECAN principles. 

    ● Serve on Care Group and attend meetings with parents, teachers, and the Educational Support Teacher to support the creation and implementation of Care Plans. Assist in yearly Fifth Grade assessments as needed. 

    ● Coordinate summer teacher trainings and support student teacher practicums in collaboration with teacher training institutions 

    ● Organize and communicate faculty meeting agendas 

    2. Administration & Governance 

    Policy Stewardship: Uphold policies of the faculty and Pedagogical Committee to ensure quality, consistency, and continuity. Behavior contract implementation and acceptance of students 

    Collaborative Liaison: Maintain a close relationship with the Administrative Director and support AWSNA reporting. 

    Specialty Liaison: Serve as specialty teacher liaison and conduct specialty teacher meetings. 

    Reporting: Provide written pedagogical reports to the Board and attend faculty meetings. 

    ● Serve on hiring committees for faculty and substitutes 

    ● Monitor the School’s strategic plan as it applies to pedagogical goals

    ● Support coordination of in-service meetings and professional development opportunities in collaboration with Administration 

    3. Parent & Community Liaison 

    Parent Education: Present at parent meetings on pedagogical topics and support parent education evenings. Lead Waldorf parent study. 

    Enrollment Support: Support the Enrollment Coordinator with main lesson tours and represent the school's pedagogical mission to prospective families.

    Conflict Resolution: Support the resolution of parent concerns in conjunction with the Pedagogical Committee about pedagogical questions or concerns.

  • The First Grade Assistant will assist the First Grade Teacher during the main lesson from 8:00 to 10:30 and then return from 1:00 to 3:30  to be with the students who remain for the afternoon.  Duties include working individually with students or in small groups as needed, following the teachers' lead in participating in full class activities, modeling the activity for the students, and addressing student distractions and needs. In the afternoon, the assistant serves as the sole provider, supervising the students in quiet rest time, simple craft or sensory activities, and outdoor play, while maintaining the expectations set by the First Grade Teacher and providing continuity in the morning and afternoon programs.   Applicants should have experience working with children in group settings and some knowledge of Waldorf education. 

  • As a specialty teacher, the woodwork teacher shares their woodworking skills and expertise with students in grades 5 – 8 in developmentally appropriate ways and following the Waldorf curriculum.  The students only use hand tools, like rasps, gouges, hand saws, hand drills, and sand paper.  The teacher, however, may use power tools to prepare the wood for the students.  The woodworking classes are an hour and a half long, with no more than 10 students at a time.  The teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment and appropriate tool use as well as for holding high standards for craftsmanship.  In addition to being a skilled woodworker, applicants should have experience working with groups of children. 

  • These part-time position involves supervising children in the afternoons, ensuring they are engaged in age-appropriate activities that align with Waldorf principles. The role includes overseeing quiet time, guiding simple crafts and games, and supervising outdoor play. The duties also involve preparing a simple snack for the children who remain after 3:15 PM and cleaning the classroom after 5:00PM when the children are picked up.  Providers are expected to meet with the lead teacher and  observe the morning lesson at least once to gain a sense of the  rhythm of the day and the teacher's expectations, in order to provide as much continuity of care as possible. 

    Kindergarten Extended Care Provider 

    Monday - Friday 12:30PM to 5:30PM, the kindergarten afternoon provider cares for those students who stay for the afternoon.  Duties include setting up rest time mats, overseeing a quiet rest time,  preparing the late afternoon snack, and supervising outdoor play until 3:15PM when the majority of children will be picked up.  At 3:15PM, the remaining children in the two kindergartens will be combined under the care of one provider.  After the children are picked up by 5:15PM, the extended care provider cleans the classroom.  

    First Grade/Grades Extended Care Provider 

    Monday - Friday 1:00PM - 5:30PM, the first grade extended care provider cares for the first graders who remain after 1:00PM.  At 3:00PM, older grades children who need care until 5:00PM will join the first graders for a snack, outdoor play, and indoor games, crafts, and activities.  After the children are picked up by 5:15PM, the extended care provider cleans the first grade classroom. 

    Grades Extended Care Provider   On Thursday, when it is early release for grades 2 - 8, this extended care provider supervises children from 1:00PM – 3:15PM focusing primarily on supervised outdoor play.

    Qualifications for all positions

    • Experience working with children, ideally in a school or childcare setting.

    • A warm and patient demeanor with a genuine enthusiasm for supporting children’s growth through creative and outdoor activities.

    • Familiarity with Waldorf education principles is a plus but not required.

  • Sandpoint Waldorf School is seeking flexible and reliable Substitute Teachers for our early childhood program. If you are comfortable working with young children and have a flexible schedule, we encourage you to apply.

  • We are looking for experienced substitute teachers to support our Grades program. Substitutes in this role are typically responsible for leading the class independently. Prior teaching experience is required, though Waldorf-specific experience is not mandatory. This position is ideal for educators who are confident in managing a classroom and delivering lessons effectively.
